Marine parks aren’t safe havens for young sharks

The world’s marine protected areas often fail to include coastal habitat that is critical to the survival of juvenile sharks, according to research by the University of Western Australia in Perth.

Scientists used footage from underwater video camera systems to track the distribution of 21 shark species in tropical waters off north-west Australia.

Their findings are published online in Conservation Biology.
