Pratchett scholar to investigate ‘small gods’ of social media

University of South Australia arts graduate Freyja Stokes has been awarded a Terry Pratchett scholarship to study the impact of social media in creating online enclaves and group identities.

The $100,000 annual scholarship is a bequest from the late best-selling author of the Discworld novels to support postgraduate research in social theory, culture and identity. It was set up in 2015 and allows recipients to pursue research at UniSA and Trinity College, Dublin.

Announcing details, Stokes said that she will use Pratchett’s concept of “small gods” to analyse the behavioural influence of social media.
