Queensland social research to cut cost of dumping for charities

ARC-funded project will raise awareness of how to donate responsibly

Griffith University in Queensland is aiming to reduce the number of poor-quality, unusable products dumped in charity collection bins and at fundraising stores staffed by volunteers.

Its Brisbane-based business school has received a $347,153 Australian Research Council grant for a three-year research project to address the problem. The Queensland government has provided $120,000 in matching funds and the National Association of Charitable Recycling Organisations has contributed $30,000.
