Battling gender bias seen as ‘part of the job’ for female surgeons

   

Qualities such as empathy and good communication can have perverse consequences for women, study finds

Australia’s female surgeons continue to experience gender bias in pay and workloads, as well as subtle pattens of discrimination and sexism in workplace behaviours, a study by Macquarie University has found.

Macquarie found that gender bias was so prevalent and difficult to challenge that many female surgeons accepted it as part of their job.
