Julia Gillard will ‘bring a unique global outlook’ to UK medical charity
Former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard, who replaced Kevin Rudd after a federal leadership spill in 2010, has been appointed chair of the London-based Wellcome Trust, one of the world’s largest medical research funders.
She will take up the role in April 2021, replacing Eliza Manningham-Buller, who is stepping down after five years as chair of the board.
