Loss of rural newspapers risks silencing environmental concerns

Cost-cutting measures will deprive communities of a vital source of information, says academic

The voice of rural Australia is at risk of being marginalised at a time when environmental issues such as climate change are becoming more prominent, a Sydney media academic has said.

Willa McDonald, a lecturer with the centre for media history at Macquarie University, warned that the closure of regional newspapers would deprive rural communities of a vital source of local information.
