Performance review ‘should decide future of CRCs’

More than 20 national research organisations could be closed or merged with government science agencies following a federal review of the Cooperative Research Centres programme.

The Miles review of the CRCs has made 18 recommendations for change including abolishing “public good” from the list of funding criteria, and prioritising research that contributes to economic growth.

It has also recommended scrutiny of current CRCs to assess whether they are on track to meet their research goals.
