University queries CRC commitment to tropical health research

Senate inquiry told “fly in fly out” research will not benefit Northern Territory

 The Northern Territory’s sole university has questioned the regional role and effectiveness of the federally funded Cooperative Research Centre for Northern Development in its submission to a Senate inquiry.

Charles Darwin University says it would “be a mistake” for the government to rely on the CRC as the primary means to support tropical health research. It says future plans must invest in NT initiatives in tropical medicine rather than “fly in fly out” research.
