Newcastle uni launches research facilities

Newcastle University launched two research and learning facilities, costing AU$2.5 million, on 27 July.

The purpose-built facilities include an industrial design workshop and an engineering and research laboratory.

More than 900 students, including many postgraduates, studying architecture, design, construction management, property economics and quantity surveying will make use of the workshop.

The School of Engineering’s research capacity will be enhanced by facilities that provide space for experimental research and laboratory-based researchers.

The Australian government has contributed AU$2m from the Teaching and Learning Capital Fund for construction of the industrial design workshop and a further AU$562,000 through the Better Universities Renewal Funding initiative for the engineering research laboratories.
