Medical research grants announced

Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council has announced AU$652 million for 1,141 medical research grants.

The awards, announced on 19 October, range from basic science to research translation and support scientists and their teams through the early and mid-stages of their careers, the government said.

Most funding will go to Victoria, which will receive AU$290m for 498 grants. The University of Melbourne is the largest single recipient, with an allocation of AU$89.6m for 162 grants.

The independent Walter and Eliza Hall Institute will receive $30.7m for 44 grants, the most of all independent institutes.
