Australian Nobel laureate Professor Brian Schmidt has been given a AU$1 million extension on his fellowship from the Australian research council to continue his work mapping the southern sky, the government announced.
“All Australian Laureate Fellowships include funding to support a team of postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers. Professor Schmidt is a talented research leader and his role in mentoring today’s early career researchers is helping develop tomorrow’s high-skilled research workforce,” the minister for science and innovation, Chris Evans, said on 30 March.
He added that Schmidt’s research is poised to make “significant headway” in astronomy research.
