Nobel laureate joins Questacon Advisory Council

Nobel laureate Brian Schmidt has been appointed a part-time member of the Questacon National Science and Technology Centre Advisory Council until 2015.

The only Australian to ever win a Nobel prize, Schmidt claimed the 2011 physics accolade, with Saul Perlmutter and Adam Reiss, for discovering that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate.

Announcing the appointment on 23 July, the minister for science and innovation, Chris Evans, said Schmidt is “well placed as a science ambassador.”

The council’s role is to provide advice on Questacon’s direction and act as a link between Questacon and key constituencies.
