Breeding centre aims to grow better prawns

The Australian Research Council has launched a plan to create the world’s biggest prawn farm and advanced aquaculture genomics centre.

The project was announced by federal MP Ewan Jones on 5 May at Australia’s oldest and largest prawn farming business, Seafarms, at Cardwell in northern Queensland.

Seafarms will be an industry partner in the $5 million project, which will be led by Dean Jerry, head of aquaculture and fisheries at James Cook University.
