NHMRC urged to ‘set a date’ for grants results

A senior scientist at Monash University in Melbourne has said that he will continue an internet campaign to force Australia’s biggest medical research funder to set a fixed date to announce its annual grants recipients.

Tim Moss, a senior research fellow with the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, launched an online petition on 22 October calling for the National Health and Medical Research Council to adopt a more user-friendly system for grant applicants.

“Every year around the middle of October, Australia’s medical researchers are preoccupied by the impending announcement of NHMRC grants. Many researchers’ livelihoods depend on the outcome of competitive grant applications. Anxiety is high,” Moss wrote in a preamble to his e-petition on Change.org.
