Project to measure moisture content of forest fuels could help predict and prevent major fires

Federal education minister Dan Tehan has announced a $524,000 grant for universities in Australia and Spain to develop a reliable modelling system to forecast bushfire intensity.

The Australian Research Council grant will support research co-led by Western Sydney University and the Australian National University in Canberra to measure the moisture content of forest fuel loads such as bark, leaf litter and dry grass.
