ARC branches out with millions for Australian-themed research

Special federal funding round goes to historical and Indigenous projects

The Australian Research Council is pumping A$11.8 million into work on Australian history, culture and society via a special funding round supporting projects ranging from lost novels to ancient trees.

Education minister Dan Tehan originally unveiled the initiative in January. Some 692 applications requesting a total of A$161.4m were received, but only 49 applications were successful, the ARC announced on 14 October.
