CSIRO to axe 40 jobs from national energy research projects

Cuts ‘reflect shift towards renewable energy’, but staff representatives say specialist capabilities will be lost

Australia’s top science agency is to cut 40 jobs from its energy research programmes at four laboratories in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation says the cuts reflect an industry shift “away from fossil fuel-based energy dependence” and an increased investment in renewable energy research.
