Australian minister reveals 32 applicants bidding for A$22 million were disqualified for citing preprints

Australia’s physics community has expressed outrage over the revelation that multiple researchers had grant applications thrown out for citing papers that were not published in traditional peer-reviewed journals.

The Australian Research Council (ARC) is coming under huge pressure to review its processes, after it emerged that it disqualified several grant applications because they included references to documents that were deemed to be preprints.
