Interim chief executive appointed as anger over grant vetoes continues
The Australian Research Council has appointed an interim chief executive while the search for its next permanent head gets underway. The move comes as protests continue over the ministerial vetoing of six ARC grants and as researchers wait for an overdue funding round to open.
Judi Zielke (pictured), chief operating officer of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, stepped into the role on 1 February. She replaced Sue Thomas, whose five-year contract was originally due to finish in June.
