Turnbull will link grants to industry partnerships

Australia’s university researchers must “collaborate or crumble” under a new federal grants system that will focus on industry engagement, prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has warned.

Speaking at a national science forum in Sydney on 10 December, Turnbull said the “publish or perish” culture of university research had failed to encourage or reward innovation.

“We have some of the best researchers in the world, no question,” he said.
