Australian manufacturing needs better research links, inquiry told

   

Skills development, fast-tracked immigration and industry PhDs feature strongly in submissions to Senate manufacturing inquiry

Universities and research bodies have sounded the alarm on the state of Australia’s knowledge and skills base in their submissions to an inquiry by the Senate Standing Committee on Economics.

The Group of Eight research-intensive universities told the inquiry—which is investigating the needs of Australian manufacturing, including how it can be supported by research—that Australia “cannot afford to become an economic and research island”.
