Funding boost for WA cancer research

Scientists at the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research have received funding to study the potential of genetic drug miR-7 to treat cancer, the state government announced on 28 August. The project will be supported by the Medical Research Commercialisation Fund, set up by the governments of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia in order to support commercialisation at medical research institutes.

Details of the funding have not been disclosed. The cash will be funneled through the MiReven Pty Ltd, a WAIMR spin-off company.
