Academics at the University of Western Australia have demanded their vice-chancellor explain why the university is hosting a $4 million policy research centre headed by Danish climate change contrarian Bjorn Lomborg.
Anger over the appointment has escalated following revelations that prime minister Tony Abbott’s office led the push to establish the Australia Consensus Centre at UWA’s business school in Perth.
Abbott has previously referred to climate change as “crap”, and ordered the dismantling of the Australian Climate Commission advisory body in his first week as prime minister in 2013.
