Ministers scale up Asian travel grants scheme

The Australian government has expanded its New Colombo Plan mobility grants programme, doubling the number of grants available for students travelling to Asia to study in 2016.

The $20-million programme is part of the scheme launched in 2014 to encourage Australian undergraduates to study or take up research and cultural internships in Asia-Pacific countries.

Federal foreign minister Julie Bishop (above) and education minister Christopher Pyne jointly announced the opening of the 2016 round on 2 April in Canberra.
