Overhaul of research training given green light

The Turnbull government has flagged changes to Australia’s research training system that will link university research grants to industry partnerships.

In a joint statement on 4 November, education minister Simon Birmingham and science minister Greg Hunt (above, right) said they had accept all the recommendations made by a national review of research training.

The 10-month inquiry was conducted by the Australian Council of Learned Academies, and made six recommendations.
