The Turnbull government’s two-year freeze on university funding means more than 9,500 students are likely to miss out on places in 2018, according to advocacy group Universities Australia.
It says the funding freeze will force some universities to enrol fewer students to “avoid a budget black hole” in their finances.
UA is the main group representing Australia’s universities and consists of vice-chancellors and senior bureaucrats from 39 urban and regional tertiary institutions.
