Security director defends international research collaboration amid claims over Chinese ‘spy networks’

The head of Australia’s main intelligence agency has defended the role of “open collaborative research” at the country’s universities.

Mike Burgess, director-general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, told a Senate estimates hearing in Canberra that it “is entirely legitimate for universities to get funding from a range of sources”.
