Social media backlash against Christian Porter’s appointment prompts Australian academy to apologise for tweet

The Australian Academy of Science has apologised for a tweet in which it welcomed former attorney-general Christian Porter as the incoming minister for industry, science and technology.

The tweet on 29 March read: “We thank [Karen Andrews] for her leadership and long-term commitment to science and technology over the past two years. We look forward to working with incoming minister for industry, science and technology, Christian Porter.”
