An independent national review will look at ways to reduce the red tape involved in compliance reporting and data management at Australia’s universities.
The regulatory review was announced by federal tertiary education minister Craig Emerson on 30 May.
It follows repeated calls by vice-chancellors for an urgent overhaul of what they say are costly, time-wasting regulations involved in meeting the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency’s reporting requirements. These include multiple answers to questions about a university’s financial viability, corporate governance, academic governance and management, recruitment and student resources.
