The universities of Melbourne and Tasmania have won funding from the Australian Research Council in the first round of the industrial transformation research hubs scheme.
From a field of 12 applications, the two each secured money for two hubs. Melbourne takes a total of $7 million—$5m to establish a hub specialising in research for the dairy industry and $2m for a food hub that will work in partnership with Kraft Foods.
Tasmania has won $5m for a hub that will work on rock lobster culture systems and another $2.5m for its pathways to market hub, a project to support the food industry.
