Gold coast innovation centre will close as city council dithers over funding

A Queensland business centre that helped inventors secure more than $28 million in start-up grants and private investment to commercialise research is closing due to uncertainty over future funding.

The Gold Coast Innovation Centre at Griffith University will close on 30 June because it cannot confirm if it will receive a $75,000 grant from the Gold Coast City Council.

A council spokesman told Research Australia, “no specific council recommendation has been made to not proceed with funding for the centre.’’ However, he added that the council would be briefed on 18 June on a decision by the centre’s board to wind down operations.
