Software will give ‘real time’ data on bushfires

Fire prediction technology allowing farmers and firefighters in rural areas to predict the spread of bushfires is being developed by software engineers at the University of Western Australia in Perth.

The UWA researchers have designed a touchscreen device that can be installed in a fire truck or farm vehicle and can operate without internet connectivity.

Announcing details of the project, UWA computer science professor George Milne said the technology could save lives and protect homes and livestock in WA’s bushfire prone areas.
