Leading educationalist Chris Sarra has warned universities against “using black faces” to attract funding for projects that subsequently exclude Indigenous people from management roles.
In a speech at the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee awards in Darwin in the Northern Territory, the University of Canberra professor called for “a real revolution” across all levels of Australia’s education system.
He said schools and universities frequently failed to acknowledge the abilities, aspirations and “humanity” of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students.
