Schools must tackle growth in mental issues

Mental health problems, such as anxiety and attention-deficit disorders, are affecting one in seven Australian school children according to a national survey led by the University of Western Australia in Perth.

The study looked at the impact of mental health on school attendance, engagement and performance for children from more than 6,000 families across the country.

It found that students with mental disorders scored lower on average than their classmates in every test and year level.
