Coalition win to continue tertiary research funding woes

Australia’s universities are likely to face further funding cuts and pressure to find industry sponsors for research, following an unexpected win by the Morrison government in the 18 May federal election.

On election night, education minister Dan Tehan told local media in Victoria that he expects to retain the portfolio when prime minister Scott Morrison announces his new cabinet later this month.

“The PM made it clear during the campaign he would like me to continue on,” he told reporters.
