Tasmania to review admissions following ‘cash cow’ media claims

The University of Tasmania has announced an independent review of admissions procedures for international students following a media report that claimed English language requirements were being “waived” to boost enrolments.

Four Corners, an Australian Broadcasting Corporation current affairs television programme, reported that admissions departments at several Australian universities had lowered English entry standards in a bid to attract more fee-paying overseas students.

It claimed those universities included Murdoch University in Western Australia and UTAS.
