The Morrison government is to go ahead with a $94-million programme to encourage domestic and international students to enrol at regional campuses across Australia.
The Destination Australia programme will provide more than 4,700 scholarships over four years to support study and living expenses at regional universities.
The scheme was announced in early 2019 as part of the government’s election campaign policies but was likely to have been scrapped if Labor had won the May federal election. Following the coalition’s return to government, the programme will start in 2020 with scholarship applications opening later this year.
