Successful recreation of deadly virus will be a ‘game changer for diagnosis’

Australian medical scientists have successfully replicated the Wuhan coronavirus from a patient sample at a Melbourne laboratory, in a critical breakthrough that could help create a vaccine for the virus.

Researchers at the Peter Doherty institute for infection and immunity at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital are the first scientific team outside China—where the virus originated—to recreate it.
