Senate committee backs proposed research standards

   

Australian higher education providers will have to meet standards to keep the title of ‘university’

Standards for the amount and quality of research that Australian universities must carry out are on course to be introduced following a positive Senate committee report on the proposed law.

The report, released by the Education and Employment Legislation Committee on 27 November, says that a bill changing the categories of higher education institutions in Australia, and specifying the levels of research they must do, should be passed.
