University loses appeal against order to reinstate academic

Business school lecturer had been sacked for ‘unsatisfactory performance’ related to research publishing targets

Australia’s industrial relations tribunal has rejected an application by the University of Technology Sydney to contest a decision ordering it to reinstate an academic who was sacked for not publishing enough papers in top-ranked research journals.

In a statement published on 8 July, the Fair Work Commission refused permission for UTS to appeal against the decision it handed down in March.
