Confirmed higher education job cuts top 3,500 and are rising

Job cuts announced in Australia’s higher education and research sector have exceeded 3,500, as universities continue to reel from the financial fallout of the pandemic.

Officially confirmed redundancies at a long list of universities around the country include 355 voluntary departures at RMIT University, 239 staff lost at La Trobe, 297 at Central Queensland University, 240 at Swinburne University and nearly 500 at the University of New South Wales.
