Universities demand ‘national effort’ on international education

Parliamentary inquiry hears of red tape and misconceptions around Australia’s multibillion-dollar foreign student sector

Too much red tape and outdated views are hampering efforts by Australian universities to internationalise, a federal inquiry has been told.

The inquiry, by the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, is investigating the recovery of the country’s education and tourism sectors from the Covid-19 pandemic, including Australia’s attractiveness to international students and researchers.
