Universities to compete for new student places

Federal jobs push provides money for twin priorities of key sectors and disadvantaged students

Australian universities will be invited to bid for 20,000 new student places created to tackle skills shortages and allow more students from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend university.

In an announcement on 17 August, education minister Jason Clare (pictured) said the funding of the places was a “first step” in increasing equity in university access.
