Falling numbers of PhD students pose a challenge for Australian research, but is government listening?

Australian academia has a problem: the number of people studying for a PhD is dropping.

There were 2.6 per cent fewer PhD-level students in 2021 than 2020, according to the latest data published by the Department of Education.
