Proposal to limit the number of international students enrolled roils sector

Plans to limit the number of international students that Australian universities can recruit are provoking anger among vice-chancellors.

“Ministerial overreach,” a “political smokescreen” and “rushed and poorly framed legislation” was how higher education representatives described the Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment (Quality and Integrity) bill at a Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee hearing on 8 August.
