French government says promise to boost research budget has been met

Laurent Wauquiez, France’s minister for higher education and research, has announced a 2012 budget of just less than €25.8 billion for higher education and research.

Pointing out the €9.387 billion increase, the government says the budget, announced on 28 September, is in line with a promise made by President Nicolas Sarkozy to increase research and higher education investment over the period 2007-2012.
