The European Commission says it wants to double the budget for agricultural research and innovation under the Common Agricultural Policy. In a proposal presented on 12 October, the Commission says that such research should get €5.07 billion between 2014 and 2020, out of a total CAP budget of €440bn. The Commission claims this research funding could boost farm productivity, especially through better collaboration between researchers and farmers, and quicker uptake of scientific results in the field.
