Many researchers remain wary of open-access publications because they think their careers will be best served by publishing in traditional, subscriber-based journals, says a study released on 7 October. Researchers at Loughborough University, in the UK, conducted the study across Europe between 2009 and 2011. “The central role of the peer-reviewed journal article in academic careers is not diminishing despite the emergence of digital scholarship and novel modes of dissemination,” the study finds.
