MEPs support Commission’s €80bn research-fund proposal

The European Commission’s proposal to increase the budget of the next EU research-funding programme to €80 billion is set to receive widespread support in the European Parliament.

MEPs gave a warm response when the 45 per cent budget increase was announced on 29 June. The increase was particularly welcome since an increase for the overall EU budget for 2014-20 looks unlikely, MEPs said.
