Only one fifth of climate data usable for research

Only 20 per cent of European climate data is openly available for research use, according to findings by researchers at the University Rovira and Virgili in Spain and the University of East Anglia in the UK, published in the journal Climate Research.

While some climate data in Europe goes as far back as the 17th century, “not even 20 per cent of the information recorded in the past is available to the scientific community,” says Manola Brunet, lead author and head of the Centre for Climate Change at the University Rovira and Virgili.
